The Agency Research Team (ART)
Role and tasks
The Agency Research Team (ART) is an advisory body of the EUROCONTROL Agency. It disseminates research topics, projects and results with relevance for Air Traffic Management (ATM) amongst its members and reviews the Agency’s research work programme from a strategic as well as from a technical perspective.
ART focusses specifically on the Agency’s contribution to the SESAR programme, ACARE initiatives and Flightpath 2050, ensuring convergence of initiatives, alignment with Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) requirements and the non-duplication of resources.
Its embraces issues specific to ATM while addressing influencing factors and the impact air transport and aerospace have on ATM, including societal considerations and the integration of transport modes.
The ART will report to the Agency Advisory Body (AAB). As such, the ART will operate and report on their performance during a rolling one-year work programme, reviewed by the AAB.
The ART will, in full coordination with the AAB, advise and provide recommendations to the Agency on strategic orientations, subjects for research and cooperation with third countries. ART seeks feedback from and the involvement of the AAB in its activities, including ART workshops.
The ART is also a forum for exchange and for promoting awareness between interested parties, including the identification of complementarities, duplication of work and gaps requiring further coordination and action, where appropriate.
ART membership is open to representatives of all organisations with a strong interest in ATM-related research. The Agency will extend invitations to the European Commission, the SESAR Joint Undertaking, the European Aviation Safety Agency, international associations, academia, airlines, civil aviation authorities, air navigation service providers, research institutes and industry, as well as other organisations as appropriate.
Meetings and events
ART holds two regular meetings per year; attendance is restricted to ART members. In addition to these regular meetings, two workshops are organised annually on specific topics selected by ART for their potential impact on ATM and ATM research.
Participation in ART workshops is open and ART actively seeks attendance from researchers interested and knowledgeable in the subject matter under discussion.
