EUROCONTROL’s surveillance modernisation activities focus on promoting performance-based modernisation and rationalising the European ATM network’s surveillance capabilities.
Europe’s surveillance system is evolving with the deployment of new surveillance techniques, such as ground or space-based Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) and Wide Area Multilateration (WAM) systems. We help with their monitoring and implementation; we provide the right guidance to ensure that the system is streamlined, cost-effective, spectrally efficient and globally interoperable.
In addition, work is progressing on the uniform application of reduced separation minima, including the provision of surveillance on a global scale. Performance Based Surveillance (PBS) aims at generic and harmonised surveillance safety and performance requirements, system specifications, evaluation methods and tools which underpin interoperability and improve efficiency for all stakeholders in the network.
In parallel, there is ongoing support for the European Union Regulation No. 1207/2011 SPI IR amendment process - a key enabler for rationalising and modernising surveillance in the European ATM Network now and in the future.
