August 2016 saw 2.6% more flights than the year before - and it had the highest number of flights ever recorded with a daily record average of 31,987.
Another boost for August was that ticket prices were exceptionally low; they went down 4.2% compared with August 2015.
Low-cost airlines were among the main drivers of growth as the top three carriers adding the most departure flights to the network were Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air.
More good news for August: preliminary figures indicate that the average all causes departure delay per flight was 12 minutes, compared with almost 13 minutes in August 2015.
As for airports, in the peak summer months of July and August 2016, the airport with the most aircraft movements was Amsterdam Schiphol; the one with the most passenger traffic was London Heathrow.
