EUROCONTROL at World ATM Congress 2017

7 March 2017

Today World ATM Congress opens its doors to the international air traffic management community in Madrid.

Over the next three days we will be showcasing what EUROCONTROL is doing to improve the performance of air traffic management (ATM) on a regional and global level, and to develop stronger links with ATM organisations in Europe and around the world.

We encourage visitors to come to our stand (#849) to learn more about our initiatives through our demos/exhibits, to meet our experts and to attend our stand briefings which will cover a wide range of topics.

At the event we will also be holding two workshops on 8 March in the ATM Theatre – one on 'The Implementation of  Free Route Airspace in Europe' and one on 'SWIM: From R&D to reality'.

At the Free Route workshop, EUROCONTROL’s Network Manager and high-level representatives from five air navigation service providers (ANSPs) - Austro Control, BHANSA, Croatia Control, Slovenia Control and SMATSA - will present the free route airspace (FRA) concept and provide real examples of implementation over Central and South East Europe. The workshop will also present the airline perspectives and look at how airspace users are gradually adapting their flight planning systems to fully exploit the potential of free route airspace.

The Workshop will conclude with the signature of the Memorandum of Cooperation for the new South East Common Initiative by the five ANSPs.

The System Wide Information Management (SWIM) Workshop, in collaboration with the SESAR JU and SESAR Deployment Manager, will look at how SWIM enables seamless interchange of air traffic management information between providers and users. It will present the SWIM concept, standards and governance and provide examples of initial implementation.

At the show, EUROCONTROL’s Network Manager will also be joining the SESAR Joint Undertaking, the SESAR Deployment Manager, the European Commission, the European Defence Agency (EDA), the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment  (EUROCAE) on the SESAR stand where a series of activities will be running under the theme 'Partnering for excellence in global aviation'. More information on this is available on the SESAR JU website:
