In recent years EUROCONTROL has placed considerable emphasis on reaching out to EU bodies and decision-makers to raise awareness of the work of the Agency in the form of dedicated briefings or presentations.
The latest of these saw Joe Sultana, Director Network Manager, invited to address the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) on the subject of "Air Traffic Management Continuity in an Open and Connected Europe".
The EESC, which focuses on promoting civil society and citizen participation matters in Europe, assists the Parliament, Council and Commission in an advisory capacity, and this specific hearing formed part of the Committee's work on opinion TEN/641 Aviation: An Open and Connected Europe.
In a meeting also attended by Henrik Hololei, Director-General for Mobility and Transport, and Filip Cornelis, Director of Aviation Policy, Joe Sultana addressed key stakeholders from the aviation sector, trade unions, regulators and passenger associations, on the work the Network Manager undertakes to mitigate the impact of strikes and the specific impact strikes have had in 2017 and their impact on flight efficiency. As Joe emphasised in his intervention, “The best possible network performance every day is the raison d’être of the Network Manager”, underlining the central role played by NM in ATM continuity and efficiency.
